Let's Give Them Life - And A Family |

`In Johannesburg, forty to fifty babies are abandoned every month - thrown out of windows, left in parks, flushed down toilets, and left in rubbish bins.' (Kate Taylor, Door Of Hope Children's Mission). Some babies have even been abandoned on railway lines. This most tragic situation cannot be ignored. |
The Challenge
|
As far as Aids babies & orphans are concerned, the general challenge can be summarized in three parts:
Part 1: Besides the fact that hundreds of babies are abandoned every month, there are more than 1,100,000 (1.1 million) Aids orphans in South Africa (1.1 million is the 2003 estimate - Ref.).
Part 2: The South African government has placed a moratorium on the registration of children's homes. Its widely supported belief is that children who are orphaned or who are in need of care should be placed in individual family homes instead of in institutions. (CNN Transcript)
Part 3: Many families are willing to adopt a child, and are willing to undergo screening in order to determine their suitability as foster parents - but most of these families, though they may qualify on every other point, fall far short financially.
The Solution
In view of the above challenges, The Aids Babies and Orphans Fund has been founded with four primary goals in mind:

|

|
|
Goal 1: To inform HIV-positive parents and parents-to-be that there is life and hope after HIV, that there is a way of living that can keep the HIV virus under control, and that those with HIV can live relatively normal lives - despite the challenges that the HIV virus presents. We believe that this understanding will lift the dark cloud of hopelessness from the minds of HIV-positive parents and that it will do more than anything to reduce the number of babies that are abandoned or aborted every month.
Goal 2: To support agencies that specialize in screening families that are willing to foster Aids orphans.
Goal 3: To establish a nationwide fund-raising program aimed primarily at helping suitable families to meet the substantial costs involved in raising an adopted child.
Goal 4: To encourage foster parents to incorporate a healthful lifestyle and a natural diet into their daily routine and to access the necessary medical care and support.
