The True Meaning Of
A Healthful Lifestyle & Diet
"Lifestyle" and "Diet" are the buzz words of our age. The sad truth, however, is that the more you read about these subjects, the more likely it is that you will become confused.
So let's try and untangle the confusion.
Diet (Nutrition)
The word, "nutrition" means different things to different people. Generally speaking, we may divide the most common perceptions and misconceptions regarding this word into the following three categories.
1) Nutrition means the eating of anything that is edible.
2) Nutrition means the eating of "good" food.
3) Nutrition means the eating of "natural" foods AND the avoidance of all "unnatural" foods.
When we are searching for good health, and we wish to boost our immune system, our choices must be guided by the latter definition. When our very life could be at stake, we need to accept that nutrition is as much a matter of what we DO NOT EAT as it is a matter of what we DO EAT.
At the present time in South Africa there is a war being waged between those who advocate the use of anti-retroviral drugs and those who advocate "nutrition" as an alternative and, as can be expected, vested interests are very actively engaged in this war.
Nevertheless, one cannot help but to get the idea that there are influential people on both sides of this argument who think of "nutrition" as little more than a bag of cornmeal (mealie meal), a bag of sugar, and plenty of meat.
Is it any wonder, therefore, that those who advocate nutrition are not winning in this war? Such a diet will be more likely to undermine the immune system because cornmeal is highly refined, sugar is a highly refined empty calorie that is known to weaken the immune response, and flesh foods are positively dangerous for those who are HIV positive, firstly because flesh foods contain no fiber and are constipating, secondly because of the serious risk of contamination, and thirdly because of the prevalence of disease in food animals today (which disease is largely caused by unnatural breeding and feeding practices).
There are many instances in which the importance of nutrition in conjunction with the treatment of HIV is not highlighted enough and/or its impact on the recovery process is not given sufficient weight or consideration. Here are three examples that we came across on websites that deal with HIV and Aids.
1) "Good nutrition means getting enough macronutrients and micronutrients."
2) "Make sure you eat plenty of protein and starches, with moderate amounts of fat."
3) "Be sure to eat a balanced diet, including plenty of protein and whole grain foods, with some sugar and fat."
While we do not doubt the sincerity of those who are making these suggestions, this kind of nutritional advice falls far short of the needs of those who wish to boost their immune systems.
In a world where our food supply is becoming more and more adulterated, where junk foods proliferate, where a large proportion of the foods that are available in supermarkets are anything but bio-friendly, and where food manufacturers do not always give the health of the consumer the highest priority, we have to recognize that nutrition is as much a matter of what we DO NOT EAT (unnatural foods) as it is a matter of what we DO EAT (natural foods).

Good nutrition, therefore, must include a balanced intake of natural foods and it must exclude all highly processed foods such as sugar, refined white flour, and hydrogenated fats; it must exclude food cooked in microwave ovens, it should exclude UHT (Ultra-Heat Treated) processed foods and irradiated foods, and it must exclude the use of foods that are laced with chemicals, preservatives and adulterants - etcetera. Considering the incidence of diseases in cattle, sheep and pigs, the mercury levels in fish, and the generally poor health of battery chickens, we simply cannot recommend these foods to those whose lives depends on a healthy immune system?
As you consider how to turbo-charge your immune system, and how to thus keep the Human Immunodeficiency Virus under control, please bear these thoughts in mind. Every suggestion and substitution included in this program will play a significant part in improving your overall vitality, boosting your immunity, and helping you to live a longer and more productive life - despite the virus.
We have come across many Aids related websites that advocate good nutrition, but we have yet to find one that places sufficient emphasis on lifestyle habits - which are as important, or even more important than nutrition.
If we were to study the glossy "lifestyle" magazines of our day we might conclude that lifestyle is all about furniture, homes, boating, recreation, leisure, sport, cars, design, fashion etcetera. When we are seeking to boost our immune system, however, the lifestyle habits and choices that we need to embrace most enthusiastically are the following:
¤ A daily exercise program out of doors - walking is the best exercise for sick bodies - at least 30 minutes per day. More.
¤ A short brisk walk after every meal
¤ A daily sun bath (15 minutes lying on your back and 15 minutes lying on your front). More.
¤ Sleeping and living with your windows open. Do not hang net curtains on the windows. More.
¤ The drinking of at least 2 glasses of water at least 1 hour before every meal. Liquids should not be taken together with meals. More.
¤ A daily time of "proactive relaxation" - that is, setting aside time in every day when we make a determined effort to relax (preferably outdoors), to talk about pleasant things, and to spend quality time with our loved ones. More.
¤ A decided, ongoing effort to avoid any activity or substance that stimulates or debilitates. More.
¤ A never ending quest for a deeper knowledge in regard to health and natural healing methods. More.
